This is basically how I got into the radio industry, Back in 2000 My first time on radio was via telephone on an internet show on TTFM Melbourne (now Mix 101.1) called “Net @ Nite” with Andy Grace, unfortunately this show was axed, and now Andy is with Nova 96.9 in Sydney
My first time in a studio was at a local radio station called “Hillside Radio” where I did work experience in 2001 for a week, I only did 2x 30min shows (one at 10am the next at 11am) Then you would have never heard me again on that station as I went back to school
December 2001 presenter “Daniel Freeman” and I met for the first time, and decided I could go on his radio show in the Yarra Ranges named “VYV 99.1” (Voice of the Yarra Valley) This would be my longest time on air, and also the earliest, doing the breakky shift (I can tell you I nearly fell asleep later on while trying to buy a car stereo)
The show went that good, I was back on the same spot, same station one month later, and then 2 weeks after that, Then finally I went to the stations training program, which helped me to become a VYV presenter and scored a Saturday Arvo shift from 3pm for 2hours, until the Footy came on in April 2002, I was on before the footy for awhile, came back to my normal time when September came, and kept the same time when I left school, the footy came in 2003 and I didnt come back on Saturday arvos, Instead I was on Wednesday afternoons from 1pm for 2hours, but that was only until I found a job, and since then I found another station which doesnt clash with my job.
In September 2003 both Daniel and myself found ourselves doing a 4hour show on Melbourne Narrowcaster Double X (1611AM). It was set up to be a comedy relief show that started at 6am Saturday mornings. April 2004 saw the timeslot moved to a 8am start, still with 4hours to be filled, I eventually chose to host the show by myself from August 2004 doing 9am til midday, a nice 3hour shift full of weather, "Weird News Of The Week" along with some 70's, 80's and 90's songs
In May 2005 I officially left Double X with the schedule of work and increasing hours not making a good combination with early morning radio. But I was still travelling to Seymour every weekend to host "The Mystery Mix" on Seymour FM 87.6 every Saturday from 4pm for 2hours, But after an AGM that was, to say the least, not legal at the station I was forced to leave the station without any notification on air.
After all of that happened, I've have since been sitting on the sidelines observing the radio scene, giving information without bias on the situations of the station on this site, while serving information from all over the state in newsletters
I'm now travelling to Seymour every weekend doing work for another voluntary group in town that is involved with heritage trains, which I've since found 3YB pops up in conversation every now and then. I've also been travelling all over the state to Swan Hill, Bendigo, Shepparton, Traralgon, Warrnambool, Ballarat, Horsham and Mildura making radio observations along the way. I've also started a new job since May 2006 in a cafe in Melbourne, while keeping busy with radio news to entertain Victoria and all visitors to this site
And just a quick note on how this website was created. It all started back in 1998, when I thought I'd make a website up, but I didnt know what I was going to base it on, So it was basically a front page with links to my favourite things (mainly media) with the page hosting on Bolt pages, when they closed their webpages services I switched to Geocities, found I can update the look of my page, along with content. Now as Surf Net Victoria enters its 9th year online, we're providing more than a bunch of links to my favourite sites. We're providing information for all Victorians, about Victoria (not only Radio/TV and events) and now we have many supporters who check the site daily for updates, and people who have subscribed to our "Surf Vic Radio" newsletter to be e-mailed Surf Net Victoria - Enjoy The Ride
