**INVESTIGATION**.
No matter which town your in, there are licences that are Low Powered, that aren't on air.
Some companies that own these licences may be owners of your local commercial radio station, or an individual person who hasn't yet put up a transmitter to broadcast
With the growing interest in these licences that can be found between 87.6 and 88.0 (as high as 88.4 in Euroa and Colac). It's a mystery why an alternate station broadcasting a niche format hasn't been thought of in these areas.
There's licences in Yea, Euroa, Colac, Glenrowan, Tecoma, Mitcham, Shepparton, Broadford, Kilmore, Myrtleford and Bright that aren't on air. But thats not the complete list.
The need for a local station in Yea got so desperate for one person in town, that they grabbed their radio, tuned it to 774 ABC Melbourne, or even 1026 News Radio, and rebroadcasted it onto 87.6, with some drifting to 88.0 depending on when you visited the town
The other towns listed, are just simply not on air, but their licence always seems to be renewed by the owner, therefore exposing them to be found as "licence hoggers"
The need to inform these people that they are breaking the rules by hogging these licences, and not giving someone else a go at running a local station, is a necessity
But that's not the end of it, with Radio 2 about to be sold off to other companies (or maybe just one), there's a chance that the company that acquires your local 1611, 1620 or 1629 licence, might not actually put it on air
Currently, Radio 2 is broadcasting automated music, with no announcers to the only 4 places that are served with Radio 2, that includes Melbourne's North and West (1629), Melbourne's East (1620), Echuca (1620) and Portland (1611). Even though there's licences owned by Radio 2's company "WorldAudio" in other towns across Victoria (Swan Hill and Bright are amoung the few), they are not on air. These licences are set to be sold off as well
A big slice of the LPON licences listed here are all about to be used by Dance Radio Network, Orbit FM. Even Heathcote's 88.0 is going to become a dance station soon.
They have reported on their front page that Orbit FM is currently broadcasting in Wangaratta, Daylesford, Port Fairy, Castlemaine and Maldon, with a whole stack still to make it on air later this year (But since our last update in April, they havent managed to set anymore towns up with the Orbit FM feed)
